- We award grants to organisations that have solid capabilities and focused, meaningful programmes in our chosen programme areas – Ageing, Disadvantaged Children & Youth, Population Health, and Reconciliation & Human Rights.
- We prefer to award large grants to a small number of grantees. Just as our limited lifespan motivated us to concentrate more resources on fewer issues, it also motivated us to concentrate on making bigger grants to fewer organisations. By making significant investments to achieve very specific objectives in a defined period of time, we hope to create more immediate and lasting improvements in the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
- We implement and maintain a rigorous evaluation programme for all our grantees that includes a robust screening and selection process, a high level of ongoing monitoring, and explicit reporting and evaluation requirements. These measures help ensure our grants are effective in bringing about the lasting changes we seek.
- We abide by of a set of
legislative advocacy principles that guide our investments in organisations pursuing social change through participation in public-policy debates.
- We seek to maximise the impact of our grantees’ work by attracting additional funds into our chosen programme areas and disseminating our knowledge and experience, along with that of our grantees, to other foundations and funders.
