The majority of our grantmaking is focused on supporting our four programmes – Ageing, Disadvantaged Children & Youth, Population Health and Reconciliation & Human Rights.
We also make a handful of grants each year aimed at evaluating the impact and success of our grantmaking across all four programme areas and sharing the lessons learned. These grants fall under a category called Strategic Learning & Evaluation.
As is common with many foundations, we reserve a small proportion of our grantmaking budget for out-of-programme grants made at the discretion of our Board and senior management. These grants are typically quite modest in the scheme of our overall giving.
The grant statistics illustrated in the following charts provide a summary of our current and past grantmaking activity. Bear in mind that, prior to 2004, we focused on three different programme areas – Higher Education, Pre-collegiate Education & Youth Development, and the Nonprofit Sector.
