Media Training Workshops with Frank Sharry

Resource type: Case Study

FOMACS |

In a series of media spokesperson training workshops, Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice, shared his distinctive style of media engagement with NGOs working for immigration reform in the Republic of Ireland.

Sharry has extensive experience lobbying in the U.S. for immigration policy reform, and this video illustrates his unique methodology and showcases sample interviews. The video presents material from 18 workshops held in 2008 and 2009, and condenses over 50 hours of footage into 70 minutes.

The workshops were run in collaboration with Dr Áine O’Brien, Director of FOMACS (Forum on Migration and Communications). From 2006 to 2011, FOMACS pioneered a cross-sector dialogue between migration and refugee advocates, refugee and migrant groups, artists, journalists and media producers together with educators and civil society activists – developing effective public communication strategies surrounding migration. The work of FOMACS now operates under the framework of Counterpoints Arts.
