Graduation ceremony is just grand

A graduation ceremony at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House has brought the number of RMIT University graduates in Vietnam to almost 1,000. RMIT Chancellor, Professor Dennis Gibson AO, conferred 385 degrees to graduands from RMIT International University Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City campus. Among the awards conferred were Diplomas and Bachelor degrees in Commerce, Information Technology, and Design, as well as Masters degrees in Business Administration and Education. A PhD was also awarded for research in the field of food hygiene in Vietnam. It was the fourth graduation ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting the success of RMIT Vietnam after seven years of operation during which nearly 1,000 students have been awarded Bachelor or Masters qualifications. Addressing the ceremony, RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, Chair of RMIT Vietnam, said: When you began your degrees, you embarked on a journey. Today’s conferring of awards does not mark the end of that journey it is one of many steps. Charles F Feeney, Founding Chairman of Atlantic Philanthropies and keynote speaker at the ceremony, awarded the 2007 President’s Award to Tran Tuan Tai as the undergraduate student who combined high academic achievement, social responsibility and service to the university community. Being in RMIT Vietnam is not only about achieving personal success, but also about creating opportunities for everyone around you, Mr Tran said. I was given full support to organise Career Days to create employment opportunities for RMIT Vietnam students and recruitment opportunities for industry, charity programs to give opportunities to less fortunate people, and networking functions to offer opportunities for investors to understand more deeply Vietnam’s great development potential, he said. The 2007 RMIT Vietnam Teacher of the Year Awards went to Claudette Clerc, a Lecturer in the English program, and Dr Hannarong Shamsub, a Lecturer in the academic programs. RMIT Vietnam conferred 78 degrees in a Hanoi graduation ceremony last week.
