Pioneering nonprofit Web service included in list of happening consumer destinations. (San Francisco, CA) – TIME Magazine has selected VolunteerMatch.org as one of the year’s Top 10 Web sites in the magazine’s annual survey of news, business and cultural touchstones for the year. In her introduction to this year’s list, TIME editor Catherine Sharick described all ten selections as resources that enrich both the online and the off-line experiences of today’s Web users. Highlighting VolunteerMatch, Sharick noted that “there’s something for everyone” and urged TIME readers to consider making a holiday pledge to give back by volunteering. The recognition comes just a few months before VolunteerMatch celebrates its tenth year helping individuals find a great place to volunteer. Launched during National Volunteer Week in April 1998, VolunteerMatch was the first destination Web site offering visitors the ability to search for volunteer opportunities by ZIP code and area of interest. This year the site has already welcomed over 6.5 million visitors who are interested in making a difference in their local community. “To be included in TIME’s short list of today_s most dynamic Web sites is tremendous,” said Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch. “This kind of recognition shows the continued power of the idea behind VolunteerMatch, and the extraordinary vitality of our network of volunteers, nonprofits, and corporate philanthropy leaders.” VolunteerMatch was the only nonprofit Web site among the year’s TIME honorees.
