The Listening Post Project at Johns Hopkins’ Center for Civil Society Studies has issued a declaration signed by many of the nation’s nonprofit leaders that calls on President Obama and Congress to help foster a “partnership in public service” between government, businesses, and the nonprofit sector. Forward Together: Empowering America’s Citizen Sector for the Change We Need (6 pages, PDF) highlights the economic contributions of America’s nonprofit sector, including those made by the eleven million people it employs, but also cautions that nonprofits will need help in these tough times to provide critical services to people in need. Signers of the declaration include former Irvine Foundation president Dennis Collins, America’s Promise Alliance president and CEO Marguerite Kondracke, Nonprofit Finance Fund president and CEO Clara Miller, and Global Philanthropy Forum founding president Jane Wales.
