Atlantic joins with the many people in Northern Ireland and from around the world saddened by the recent death of Martin McGuinness, deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland from May 2007 to January 2017. McGuinness, a former member of the Irish Republican Army, later became one of the main architects of the Good Friday Agreement which formally cemented the Northern Ireland peace process.
“He expanded the definition of ‘us’ and shrunk the definition of ‘them.’”
— Former U.S. President Bill Clinton
Atlantic Founder Chuck Feeney, who got to know McGuinness through his personal efforts to help end the conflict in Northern Ireland, said, “He dedicated his life to Northern Ireland. He was a good man. The world needs more people like him.”
