In from the Margins: Roma in Ireland
Resource type: Research Report
Nasc, the Irish Immigrant Support Centre |
The Roma community in Ireland continues to experience structural discrimination in accessing their basic rights to employment, education, social protection, housing and healthcare.
This report from Nasc, the Irish Immigrant Support Centre, an Atlantic grantee, identifies the often subtle and complex barriers to integration that Roma experience and critically assesses whether Ireland’s progressive equality legislation adequately addresses the discrimination of vulnerable minorities.
Based on evidence from a compilation of legal case work and field research, the report concludes that equality can only be attained by taking a multi-faceted approach, which incorporates strong and robust anti-discrimination and anti-racism legislation, coupled with effective integration measures and targeted funding to promote social inclusion for this marginalised community.
